In 2019 I participated in DR (Danish Broadcasting) Tv programme "Portrait Artist of the Year) I made several of sketches of the model with oil pastel on paper. This technique is also what I use when I am travelling abroad. They are quick sketches of people passing by in a park or sitting in a café. Most of them are made in A3-format, some a bit smaller. I have called them all: "Portrait -or so".
Texture art -or "3D portraits" Call them what you want. During my travels I sometimes find inspiration in the everyday materials I find.-It can be old cardboard boxes from the supermarket, or news papers, or something different. I then make little faces with an unique 3D effect which bonds the local people I see with the local materials I find. Much more inspiring than buying traditional souvenirs! They convey the fragility of a person in a very direct way.
The idea for these works came one day when I saw the piles of old cleaning rags I had accumulated in my studio. Instead of throwing them out I began to paint on them. The thought of recycling is very big these days! I have made a series of portraits that conveys the rough and imperfect expression that lies in my approach of describing people. They are meant to be presented as a "3-D" object mounted in a free floating frame. Underscoring the tactility of the work.
